Get Out of the Bubble and Live Life!
I recounted last week an observation on my personal blog about experiencing life in the big city. It got me thinking about my next topic, which is best summed up with the question that consumed my thoughts that day: Why are you still living in Utah?

Tinseltown Comic Sticks to Good, Clean Fun for Laughs
Timothy Simpson refuses to be the everyday, standard-issue clown. In fact, he prides himself on being more of a classic cut-up in the category of Red Skelton and Bob Hope.
What Exactly Were the Nephite Interpreters?
Last week we revisited the Brother of Jared's experience when the Lord touched 16 stones to light the barges for the group's oceanic voyage. The Lord told him to write a record and to seal it up with two stones (possibly two of the 16) so future generations could interpret the text. These interpreters eventually ended up in the hands of Mosiah the younger, who used them to translate the Jaredite record -- the Book of Ether. We don't know exactly how Mosiah acquired the interpreters. It's poss...
Looking for the Downhill Moments in Life
One great thing about moving to a new place is all the unexplored terrain there is to cover -- and I'm not just talking about top- priority destinations. It can be just as interesting to venture out even in rather prosaic little neighborhoods, which is exactly what I've been doing during my (abysmally sporadic) runs since moving to Boston a couple of months ago. I've covered all kinds of interesting ground right around my home and found lots of paths I like, but because I've never quite manag...
Beeping Monster Makes Nocturnal Attack
I came to a level of semiconsciousness, standing next to my bed with this brain-numbing beeping echoing off the walls. My initial thoughts were: "Why am I awake? Why am I out of bed, and what in heaven's name is that horrific noise?"

Volunteer Coaches Put Spark in Games
OREM -- The tight white football pants make their seventh-grade legs seem so small, especially underneath hulking shoulder pads and scuffed helmets. The offense huddles together on the sidelines, watching as the defense lines up against the taller, bigger team, already several touchdowns ahead.
Virtual Field Trips Are Taking Students to Far-Off Places, Times
A gust of wind, salty and moist, blusters through the computer lab at Quest Academy. Building-high waves crash across a projector screen at the front of the room and lightning -- produced with a quick flip of the room's overhead lights -- strikes. Thirty second- graders squeal as the storm tosses their butcher paper and PVC pipe version of the Mayflower from swell to swell. Their fingers are white from gripping the edges of their plastic chairs. "Sometimes the ship rocks so much people get th...
In his own way and in his own time, World War II veteran Herb Schroeter will observe Veterans Day this Wednesday. But he will observe it in the company of no other soldiers. He will attend no reunions of old battalion mates. There will be no calls from men he shared foxholes with.
